Pu‘u Kukui Watershed Preserve is the largest private nature preserve in Hawaiʻi and extends across more than 9,000 acres. More than 70% of Maui’s population receives its water from the 2nd wettest spot “in the world”! Mauna Kahālāwai, known to most as the West Maui Mountains, attracts nearly 400 inches of rainfall each year and is 2nd only to Kauai’s mount Wai‘ale‘ale. At the top of Mauna Kahālāwai sits the Pu‘u Kukui Watershed Preserve which is home to the native Hawaiʻian tropical rainforest and provides water to communities from northern most Kapalua and Kahakuloa, all the way south to Wailea and Makena.
