The Foundation and Charitable Trust hosted the First Annual Grant Recipient Reception at Westin Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Villas. The evening was attended by various Maui non-profit organizations including Maui United Way, Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui, and Maui Humane Society.
Directors of the Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Charitable Trust presented a $10,000 check donation to the South Maui Learning Ohana. The donation assisted the school with their mission of conceptualize, organize, and build innovative learning environments with custom designed educational programs that will prepare students for a satisfying and productive life in the 21st Century.
Ryan Nobriga, on behalf of the Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Foundation, Trustee Angela Nolan and Executive Director Melissa Pavlicek presented a $5,000 check to the Easter Seals Hawaiʻi to support Adult Program on Maui. Easterseals is leading the way to full equity, inclusion, and access through life-changing disability and community services. For more than 100 years, they have worked tirelessly with partners to enhance quality of life and expand local access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.
Directors of the Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Charitable Trust delivered a $40,000 check to the University of Hawaii Maui College. The funding was used to purchase a peristaltic pump for filtering seawater; a laboratory furnace for combustion of bottles; general laboratory supplies for operations and analysis of nutrients, biological oxygen demand, E.coli and total suspended solids; and will also fund a student internship in the lab.
Directors of the Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Charitable Trust delivered a $10,000 check to Ka Hale A Ke Ola. KHAKO is a comprehensive resource center that provides emergency and transitional shelter, adult education and training, counseling, a primary care medical clinic and facilities for child care. KHAKO is dedicated to serving the needs of the homeless and hungry on Maui by providing emergency food and housing, voicing their concerns, and empowering participants to take responsibility for their own lives, and to call on the community to assist in these actions.
Trustee Angela Nolan delivered a $2,500 check to First Tee. First Tee is a 501 nonprofit organization that teaches children life skills through purposed golf lessons. By integrating the game of golf with a life skills curriculum, First Tee attempts to build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience in participating children.
Ryan Nobriga, on behalf of the Kāʻanapali Ocean Resort Foundation, delivered a $5,000 check to the Paia Youth Council. The council non-profit youth center features a wide range of educational, vocational & recreational activities. This purpose has evolved from offering programs and activities to putting a face and a voice on our youth and assisting them in being an important and integral part of the community.

Pu’u Kukui Watershed Preserve is the largest private nature preserve in the state of Hawaiʻi. Extending across more than 9,000 acres from ma uka to ma kai of Mauna Kahālāwai on Maui's West side, it is home to some of the rarest endangered flora and fauna in the islands. This pristine area is a vital water source for Mauiʻs community and one of the wettest spots on earth. Most recently, under new management, the ancestral wisdom of Hawaiʻian elders has been laid as the foundation for conservation efforts in the preserve; providing a culturally sensitive and informed approach to managing the thriving native ecosystem of Puʻu Kukui. Conservation endeavors include non-native invasive species control, weed control, monitoring, research and most importantly protecting rare species.

During those critical hours when school is out but parents / guardians are working, BGCM Clubhouses provide safe, positive environments where youth can come and feel empowered. Free transportation from schools to the Clubhouse is provided. More than a daycare or a study hall, Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui is a place of 100% respect, where kids rule and great futures start.

The PWF is a non-governmental organization founded in 1980 and based in Maui, Hawaiʻi that conducts whale research and educates the public in effort to save vulnerable species of whales from extinction. Their mission is to protect the ocean through science and advocacy, and to inspire environmental stewardship. They are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and their work is funded through fundraising activities, memberships and donations from supporters worldwide.
